I completed my now annual loop across the Adirondacks and Vermont with plenty of hiking, camping, fall color, cousins, friends and places I’ve known since my early years. The trip always imbues a resonance in me as strong as the massive roots of an old growth tree I happened to share a campsite with in Vermont. It’s only a week long trip but I manage to pack a lot into a short amount of time.
This was the 33rd annual Pigsnout wherein a collection of cousins, close relatives and occasional guests gather somewhere in the Adirondacks for a weekend or so of adventure. The event reminds me of the Philosophers’ Camp at Follensby Pond although many may find our Pigsnout to be a much more sophisticated arrangement.
I’m always awed by the beauty and majesty of the Adirondacks and this trip was no different. It was a fantastic ride through the 6 million acre park with all its little hamlets, local folk and deep history.
Just prior and after Pigsnout were a few rounds of disc golf. The Green Mountain pro tournament was taking place at Smugglers Notch, VT and although I’ve played the Fox Run course before it was a bit crazy there with the tournament. Parking was offsite and you had to take a bus to the course. I didn’t stick around but am planning to attend in 2025.
