The real first step, of course, was choosing the right van. We mainly chose a shorter wheelbase (144 vs 170) because the smaller footprint allowed us to maneuver it into tighter spaces, including remote campsites.
Clear the decks
Once you’re ready to start work on any van the first step is really to clear out and clean all spaces. In our case, because this was a new Sprinter cargo van that wasn’t much of a project. Then the real work begins. Start with a foundation of adequate sound deadening and insulation. For sound deadening you just have to decide where on the spectrum you want to be between tuna can and recording studio. Thinsulate is a great choice for wall and ceiling insulation while foam board was used for the floor.
